Story - 707 words  

Blackbeard had certainly matured a lot since the last time he was at pimlico, running in the Preakness his second ever race Some thought he had been thrown into his career too quickly but despite his lack of maturity he always seemed to fair well on the track. And here he was again running on the pimlico track for the Hilltop Open Stakes. The team arrived late on the night before the race, they were well used to the long haul travel from Ireland to the US. As the pulled up the sky was turning shades of pink and lilac as the sun was set in the distance.  Brent Clicked open the cab door and jogged to the back of the trailer, the ramp groaned as he lowered it to the ground hitting the ground with a muffled thud. opening the doors he could see two speckled ears poking up over the division "Hey boy we're here" Anjelica and Rupert were waiting patiently at the bottom of the ramp keen to see that Blackbeard was alright after the drive. "I'll take him round to the stables and get him settled in Brent can you go through the kit and double check we have all we need for tomorrow and meet back at the stables? Anjelica you just get some rest in the trailer you need all the energy you can get for tomorrow" Rupert called as he took the lead reins of the young stally firmly in his hands, Blackbeard new there was no point misbehaving when being lead by Rupert it wouldn't last long he had learnt this from experience  he also knew there was a chance he may be carrying some apple  in the pockets of his familiar tan coat and "only well behaved horses get treats" he thought to himself as he pranced alongside Rupert. As they neared the stables more and more horses could be seen going to and fro blackbeard looked around frantically trying to take in all the new sights and weighing up the opposition " Pff don't look like they can run very fast" he thought as he caught sight of one of the dressage horses passing. He  held his tail up behind him and lifted his head up high pulling back his top lip to sniff the air and making sure he looked manly as he could as he passed some mares who glanced over their shoulder at him. "Oi come on now don't you pay any attention to them" Rupert said giving a tug on the lead noticing his behavior changing. It was the first time Blackbeard had been around suck a verity of horses at a show normally he would only come in contact with other thoroughbred racers or national hunt horses but here there was a wide range of different breeds and builds.

Soon Blackbeard was put into his stall all rugged up for the night Brent had offered to stay with him overnight to make sure nothing suddenly happened to him. Early the next morning  Dimitry and Anjelica went to check up on them  "Theres a huge field today so far 19 horses registered to start and there's still a chance of a few more" Dimitry said slightly concerned to Anjelica "Any we need to look out for"  "Hmm theres one ot two familiar faces Enigma's Female Robbery and S3Eldritch for example but most of them we havent come across before though I've heard TLEC Elzar A-Meh, GCS Scotlands Pride and ALS Inglorious Bastard are ones to look out for" Dimitry replied "Noted" Anjelica said with a look of determination on her face. In no time at all it was the afternoon and Blackbeard was getting saddled up in the saddling boxes ready to be walked around the parade ring, there was a great clamor of noise all around some of the less experienced horses were showing their nerves but Blackbeard relished  all the attention Ellen rushed up "Sorry guys hold it there a second *Click Click* Alright perfect, good luck guys" she said patting blackbeard on the neck as he passed by out onto the parade ring. Shortly after Blackbeard and Anjelica were loading into the starting gates, eagerly anticipating the ring of the bell.
